The "Pidcock Lines" of Georgia

This is just a quick summation of the railways of that Georgia corridor that I have blogged about so far.

These rail lines were called the Pidcock Lines, because they were owned and put together by C. W. Pidcock.

Starting south at Boston, the Georgia Northern ran northward through Moultrie (where this 1929 Baldwin is on display) all the way up to Albany (where this 1911 ALCO is being "refurbished".

The GAS&C, begins in the northeast region at Ashburn, passes through Sylvester (1930 Baldwin on display) and ends at Camilla (1925 Baldwin on display).

There is also the Flint River and Northeastern Railroad, which was mainly a lumber railway, that ran from Pelham to Ticknor.

Also, the Albany and Northern Railway ran between the 35 miles between Albany and Cordele. In 1910, the Georgia, Southwestern and Gulf Railroad (GS&G) leased the A&N with the goal of opening a line from Cordele to the Gulf Coast. The GS&G ran into financial trouble and was dissolved in 1942 at which time the A&N ran independently again. The Southern Railway acquired the A&N and Georgia Northern Railway in 1966, and merged the former into the latter on December 31, 1971.
