1930 Baldwin 2-10-0 in Winder, GA

This day trip, like the previous one, had four stops on our way to and from the Tallulah Gorge National Park. A hop, skip, and jump up the road from Stone Mountain Park where we were camping led us to Winder, GA. There, by the Chamber of Commerce, was a 1930 Baldwin 2-10-0.

Now this is another first for me, as I had never seen a "decapod" before, named that because of the ten drive wheels. I originally thought this was a "Russian" but the year was not right. Some decapods were called Russians by the early railroad men because a lot of them had been built for the Russian government, but that regime had been overthrown (think Anastasia), so the orders were cancelled and most of the trains stayed in the U.S.

The Gainesville Midland RR and the Seaboard Air Line became a constant theme on this trip. This line connected the Georgia cities of Gainesville, Jefferson, and Monroe.
